During a recent interview on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation, Chris Robinson, lead singer of The Black Crowes, opened up about Aerosmith’s decision to cancel their tour due to Steven Tyler’s vocal issues. Robinson, a longtime fan and admirer of Tyler, weighed in on the challenges that singers face as they age, especially when compared to performers like Mick Jagger.

“People say, ‘Well, Mick Jagger does it.’ I’m like, ‘There’s only one Steven Tyler. That’s Mick Jagger, dude,’” Robinson remarked, highlighting how rare it is for someone like Jagger to keep going strong. “Of course, Mick Jagger still performs—he’s just like a freak of nature. He’s Mick Jagger, you know?”

Robinson expressed his understanding of Tyler’s decision to step back. “If Steven feels like he just can’t do it, it’s heartbreaking for him, but I also understand that all the pressure is on the singer,” Robinson explained. “He’s not singing to backup tapes when he comes out and does ‘Back in the Saddle.’” He emphasized the toll it takes on a singer, especially someone like Tyler, who’s known for his high-energy performances and iconic voice.

Aerosmith’s Impact on Robinson

Robinson went on to recall watching Aerosmith perform last year in Long Island during what ended up being one of their final shows before the tour was canceled. “We all had a suite to watch them after our show. We’re in New York, lots of friends and family around, and I’m sitting next to Rich [his brother and bandmate], just blown away by how good they sounded,” Robinson shared. “I was like, ‘Wow.’ They were incredible.”

Despite the tour cancellation, Robinson remains hopeful for Aerosmith’s future. “We love them. We love Steven. I hope this isn’t the last thing they get to do, but I also understand the pressure,” he said, acknowledging the physical challenges of performing at 76 years old.

The Black Crowes Continue Touring

While Aerosmith’s retirement from the road was a disappointment, The Black Crowes have continued to tour on their own. The band expressed sadness about the situation, but they are thankful for the experiences they’ve had with Aerosmith and are looking forward to creating new memories with their fans.
