Cher Has Been Finally Inducted To The Rock Hall Of Fame

Cher kicked off Saturday night’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in style, accepting her long-awaited induction with a mix of humor and heartfelt gratitude.

In true Cher fashion, she started her speech with a joke: “It was easier getting divorced from two men than it was to get into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” she quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Cher didn’t forget to acknowledge those who helped her along the way, giving a special shoutout to David Geffen, who played a key role in her induction. She said:

“Thank you, David, for caring so much about me.
“He wrote a letter to the directors, and here I am, so thank you for that.”

Cher’s Tribute to Her Mother

A major part of Cher’s speech was dedicated to her late mother, who inspired her to persevere through life’s many challenges. “[My mom taught me] if you’re down and out, you get up again,” Cher shared.

“I’ve been so low—like my mother would say, ‘lower than a snake’s belly.’ People have told me I was finished, but the one thing I got from my mom is that I never gave up.”

Before the induction ceremony, Cher teamed up with pop star Dua Lipa to perform her iconic 1998 hit “Believe,” setting the stage for a night of celebration and reflection.

Zendaya Honors Cher’s Iconic Career

Actress Zendaya, dressed in a stunning Bob Mackie-inspired gown, delivered a glowing induction speech, honoring Cher’s legendary career. “Where do I even begin?” Zendaya asked.

“There isn’t a person in this room, this country, or pretty much the whole world who doesn’t know who I’m here to honor. She’s iconic and only needs one name.”

After Zendaya’s speech, Cher returned to the stage for a powerful performance of her 1989 hit “If I Could Turn Back Time”, backed by guitarist Joel Hoekstra of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Whitesnake.

A Long Overdue Honor

Although this was Cher’s first nomination, many believe her induction was decades overdue. Cher, who has been in the music industry since 1965, has a Grammy, Emmy, Oscar, and Kennedy Center Honors to her name. Despite her impressive resume, she hadn’t been inducted until now, which was a point of contention for her.

In a 2023 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher didn’t hold back her frustration. “It’s me and the Rolling Stones,” she said, referring to her unique achievement of scoring No. 1 hits in seven different decades. “And I’m not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars.”

Other Legendary Artists Inducted in 2024

Joining Cher in the 2024 class are legendary artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, and Peter Frampton. The ceremony also honored Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, and Kool & the Gang. MC5, Jimmy Buffett, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield received the Musical Excellence award, further rounding out a memorable night celebrating music history.

Cher’s induction marked a special moment for fans and fellow musicians alike, as the “Goddess of Pop” finally took her rightful place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
