Celebrities Who Blew Their Fortunes on the Most Ridiculous Things

When it comes to money, most people either save it or spend it wisely. But celebrities? Some of them throw cash at the weirdest things — just because they can. From haunted hotel rooms to bottled “magic” water, here’s a look at stars who’ve turned pointless spending into an art form.

Bono’s $1,500 Hat Emergency
During a charity gig in Modena, Italy, U2’s frontman Bono realized he had left his favorite trilby back in London. Instead of grabbing a replacement or just going hatless, Bono pulled off a classic rock star move. He reportedly had the hat flown to Italy — with a taxi ride to the airport, a first-class seat on British Airways, and another taxi ride to the concert venue.

Madonna’s $10K-a-Month Hydration Habit
Madonna took staying hydrated to the next level. While touring, she insisted on drinking only Kabbalah water — yes, the same water blessed and meditated over by a spiritual group, sold for $5 a bottle. Some reports claimed she spent $10,000 a month to have it shipped wherever she went. In the end, it turned out to come from an ordinary bottling plant in Canada.

Lady Gaga’s Ghostbuster Gadget
Haunted hotel rooms? No thanks — at least if you’re Lady Gaga. The singer reportedly dropped $50,000 on an electromagnetic field detector to sniff out spirits before settling into a hotel. Science says ghosts don’t create electromagnetic fields, but that hasn’t stopped Gaga from using her gadget. After all, “they don’t call her Gaga for nothing.”

Bieber’s Real-Life Batmobile
Justin Bieber loves cars — and apparently Batman, too. So why not blend the two? In 2011, he asked West Coast Customs to trick out a Cadillac CTS-V into a full-blown Batmobile. Within weeks, the $100,000 “Batillac” was ready, complete with Batman logos, suicide doors, and a booming sound system.
“I’m loving that new Cadillac CTS-V. I hear it goes fast. I think it’s the perfect car for me. Do you think you can do that?” Bieber asked the shop owner. They sure could.

Elton’s Floral Obsession
Elton John doesn’t just like flowers — he lives for them. So much so that he spent around $400,000 on flowers over 20 months. When asked about it, he proudly said:

“I like flowers. I don’t have any people to leave my money to, I’m a single man, I like to spend money. It’s my money to spend.”

Nicolas Cage’s Dino Drama
Nicolas Cage once spent $276,000 on something you don’t see every day — a dinosaur skull. Specifically, a Tyrannosaurus bataar, a cousin of the T. rex. He bought it at auction in 2007, even outbidding Leonardo DiCaprio for the prehistoric prize.

Sadly, the skull turned out to be illegally smuggled from Mongolia, where exporting fossils has been banned since 1925. When Cage learned the truth, he returned it. If he had known he was paying nearly $300K just to “rent” the thing for a few years, he probably wouldn’t have bothered. Or maybe he would have — it is Nicolas Cage, after all.

Paris Hilton’s Doggy Dream House
Paris Hilton doesn’t just pamper her pups — she built them a mini mansion. Her $325,000 doghouse comes with two floors, air conditioning, heating, a chandelier, and furniture. Basically, it’s fancier than most people’s homes. It even earned her a feature in Life & Style Magazine, which may have been the goal all along.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Go Rich-Parent Van Shopping
Most new parents grab a practical car. Not Beyoncé and Jay-Z. They dropped $1 million on a custom Mercedes-Benz van, loaded with luxury.
“It actually seems more like a parenting status symbol… their willingness to pay whatever is required to make everyone else feel like inadequate parents.”

Tamara’s Crystal Bathtub
Tamara Ecclestone loves long baths — so much so, she spent $1.5 million on one made from a giant Amazonian crystal. “If she ever gets bored of it, she can always cut it up and donate the pieces to pseudoscience,” as they say.
