Papa Roach and Carrie Underwood have joined forces for a striking collaboration on the song “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark).” This partnership, while unexpected, brings together one of country music’s top vocalists and the rock band known for their hit “Last Resort.” The song is part of Papa Roach’s “Talk Away the Dark” campaign, which aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Originally released in 2022, “Leave a Light On” became a number-one hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. The positive response from live audiences inspired the band to add “Talk Away the Dark” to the title, highlighting the song’s message of hope and support. Papa Roach has committed to donating all royalties from this track to the AFSP indefinitely, underscoring their dedication to the cause.

Lead vocalist Jacoby Shaddix’s poignant lyrics, “It’s not like me to worry / But when I see you fading in the dark / I’ll leave a light on for you,” resonate deeply with listeners. Shaddix often dedicates the song to Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, who tragically died by suicide in 2017, making the song a tribute to those lost and a message of solidarity to those struggling.

The collaboration was announced on July 31, with both Papa Roach and Underwood expressing their enthusiasm. A social media post shared their commitment:

“We’re continuing the mission to raise awareness for suicide prevention and the @afspnational’s Talk Away The Dark campaign, now with the incredible Carrie Underwood by our side.”

Carrie Underwood’s rock music inclinations are well-documented, with previous collaborations including performances with Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Her live shows often feature covers of classic rock songs from bands like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, INXS, Joan Jett, and Fleetwood Mac.

This collaboration merges Papa Roach’s intense rock sound with Underwood’s powerful country vocals, delivering a unique and impactful anthem. The song’s heartfelt message and the artists’ dedication to raising awareness for suicide prevention make this a significant and moving project.
