Bruce Springsteen has officially released “Lonely Night in the Park,” a previously unreleased track originally recorded during the sessions for his legendary 1975 album Born to Run. While a rough mix of the song aired on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio in 2005, this is the first time the track is available in full on major streaming platforms.
Seven Songs Left Behind
Springsteen wrote more material for Born to Run than the album could hold. In total, seven known outtakes were left off the final tracklist. These include “Linda Let Me Be the One,” “A Love So Fine,” “A Night Like This,” “Janey Needs a Shooter,” “Lovers in the Cold,” “So Young and in Love,” and “Lonely Night in the Park.”
While most remained unreleased for decades, a few found their way to the public. “Lovers in the Cold” also aired on E Street Radio in 2005, and “Janey Needs a Shooter” was reworked and officially released on Springsteen’s 2020 album Letter to You.
More From the Vault Coming Soon
The release of “Lonely Night in the Park” follows Tracks II: The Lost Albums, a major archival project that delivered seven previously unheard albums recorded between 1983 and 2018.
And the vault is far from empty. In a June interview with The New York Times, Springsteen confirmed that Tracks III is already finished. The upcoming volume will cover music recorded from his 1973 debut Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., all the way through 2024. “It’s basically what was left in the vault,” he said. “There are five full albums of music.”
With more unreleased material on the way, Springsteen’s legacy continues to grow—one song at a time.
