Bruce Springsteen Says He ‘Couldn’t Care Less’ What President Trump Thinks of Him

Bruce Springsteen has never held back when it comes to politics, and his latest comments make it clear that time hasn’t softened his stance—especially when it comes to former President Donald Trump. The longtime rock icon recently spoke with Time magazine, where he responded to Trump’s past insults with his usual conviction.

Trump, who once called Springsteen a “dried out prune of a rocker” and said he should “keep his mouth shut,” has frequently targeted entertainers critical of his administration. Springsteen, however, appeared unbothered.

“I absolutely couldn’t care less what he thinks about me,” Springsteen told Time. “He’s the living personification of what the 25th Amendment and impeachment were made for. If Congress had any guts, he’d be consigned to the trash heap of history.”

The musician’s comments followed a performance in England, where he addressed the political climate in the U.S., condemning what he described as a corrupt and treasonous administration.

“In my home, the America I love—the America I’ve written about—has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years. Right now, it’s in the hands of an incompetent administration,” he told the crowd. “Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy to rise, raise your voices against authoritarianism, and let freedom ring.”

A Call for Political Change

Springsteen didn’t stop there. Speaking further with Time, he voiced concerns about the current state of American politics and the future of democracy. He criticized both Trump and the Democratic Party, calling for stronger leadership and clearer messaging.

“If I’m going to stay true to who I’ve tried to be, I can’t give these guys a free pass,” he said. “[Trump] doesn’t care about the forgotten anybody—only himself and the billionaires who stood behind him on Inauguration Day.”

Springsteen added that America is “desperately in need of an effective alternative party—or for the Democratic Party to find someone who can speak to the majority of the nation.” He also pointed to the communication gap between politicians and everyday Americans, noting, “There is a problem with the language they’re using and how they’re trying to reach people.”

Revisiting Nebraska: A First-Ever Live Performance

Outside of politics, Springsteen is turning his focus to music with the upcoming release of an expanded edition of his 1982 album Nebraska. Set for release next month, the new package includes the first full-length live performance of the album, recorded and filmed at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in New Jersey.

“The one thing we didn’t do with Nebraska was play it live,” Springsteen said in a press release. “So my first thought was, if we’re going to celebrate the record, there has to be a performance—singing these songs from top to bottom.”

The stripped-down performance aims to preserve the haunting, minimalist tone of the original recordings. To capture that atmosphere, Springsteen enlisted longtime collaborators Larry Campbell and Charlie Giordano, with mixing handled by Rob Lebret.

“We were lucky to get that spooky quality the record had,” he added. “Rob did a really nice job of maintaining the record’s integrity.”

The live version of “Open All Night” has already been released as a preview of what fans can expect from this intimate reimagining of one of Springsteen’s most raw and haunting albums.
