The family of Brian Wilson, the creative force behind the Beach Boys, revealed that he is battling dementia and is unable to care for himself following the loss of his wife and manager.

After the passing of his wife, Melinda Ledbetter, who had been a pillar of support through his health struggles, Wilson’s family and longtime team members have sought a conservatorship to ensure his well-being. Despite this, they assure that the 81-year-old will still have the freedom to pursue his desires.

Wilson expressed profound grief over the loss of his wife, highlighting her pivotal role in his life and career. His family, including his seven children, along with his representatives, have designated LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers as co-conservators to oversee his care, a decision aligned with family discussions and consultations with medical professionals.

This decision aims to maintain stability in Wilson’s household, ensuring minimal disruption for him and his children. The existing support system led by Gloria Ramos will continue, offering care and assistance as usual.

The family emphasized that Wilson will retain the ability to spend time with loved ones, engage in ongoing projects, and participate in activities of his choosing.

In a separate legal filing, it was detailed that Wilson cannot consent to necessary medical treatments for his condition, including medication administration due to dementia. Consequently, he will not be present at upcoming hearings due to health reasons.

The court hearing to decide on the conservatorship is set for April 26.
