I Closed My Eyes And I Slipped Away…

No one wrote power ballads quite like Boston! Their iconic ‘More Than A Feeling’ was featured on their 1976 album Boston, one of the best selling of all time and it’s a song that’s definitely stood the test of time. It was Boston’s first single – when they tried to release their first album, no one would produce it, so they made their own production company and did it all!

Talk about ingenuity!

The album Boston’s record for best selling of all time was broken in 2008 when Guns N’ Roses‘ debut set Appetite for Destruction was certified for 18 million sales.

Boston’s Tom Scholz says that ‘More Than A Feeling’ is about “the power an old song can have in your life” – I have to agree! This is definitely a song that takes me back to a simpler time in my life, and when things get rough it’s one of the few constants I can rely on to keep me grounded. Funny how the very song that is meant to explain the power of music is one of the most powerful songs ever written!

+ More Than A Feeling lyrics +

woke up this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It’s more than a feeling
More than a feeling
When I hear that old song they used to play
More than a feeling
And I begin dreaming
More than a feeling
‘Til I see Mary Ann walk away
I see my Mary Ann walkin’ away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It’s more than a feeling
More than a feeling
When I hear that old song they used to play
More than a feeling
And I begin dreaming
More than a feeling
‘Til I see Mary Ann walk away
I see my Mary Ann walkin’ away

When Im tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away

It’s more than a feeling
More than a feeling
When I hear that old song they used to play
More than a feeling
And I begin dreaming
More than a feeling
‘Til I see Mary Ann walk away
