One For The King

With the unfortunate passing of blues legend B.B. King just last year, the different genres of music assembled through the voices of Bonnie Raitt, Gary Clark Jr. and Chris StapletonĀ in gratitudeĀ at the Grammys last night. Performing iconic B.B. song “The Thrill Is Gone,” the trio wows the world with not only pristine and bluesy vocals, but emotion and passion.

Interesting Fact: Ā “The Thrill Is Gone”Ā was written and originally recorded by the blues musician Roy Hawkins in 1951.

Although it is extremely difficult to pay tribute to one of the greatest blues performers of all time, especially covering his mostĀ successful hit throughout his career, Gary and Chris did a great job keeping the focus on the King. With overly moving facial expressions shifting from one artist to the other, the one and only Bonnie Raitt appeared with a professionally genuine and solemn presence singing the beautiful song of her sweet, lost friend.

Atop a glowing, golden stage, flashing some incredible moments from B.B.’s life, the trio had the crowd putty in their hands. As some of the greatest vocalists of the current time period showing a beautiful man how much he meant to them and the world, this set was more than necessary and did the wonderful man every ounce of justice he will always deserve.

Arguably being called the greatest performance of the night, competing with the Glenn Frey tribute, we hope that these unforgettable artists realize and appreciate the mark they left on the world for us. Thank you B.B.

+ The Thrill Is Gone Lyrics +

The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby
And you’ll be sorry someday

The thrill is gone
It’s gone away from me
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away from me
Although I’ll still live on
But so lonely I’ll be

The thrill is gone, is gone away for good
Oh the thrill is gone, baby it’s gone away for good
Someday I know I’ll be over it all baby
Just like I know a man should

You know I’m free, free now baby
I’m free from your spell
Oh I’m free, free, free now
I’m free from your spell
And now that it’s over
All I can do is wish you well
