Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler, the iconic duo from Black Sabbath, have reunited, but not in the way fans might expect. The legendary musicians are starring in a new ad for Aston Villa Football Club, their hometown team in Birmingham, England.
In this fresh promotional spot, Osbourne and Butler are featured promoting the new 2024-25 season home kit for Villa. The commercial kicks off with Osbourne, dressed in the team’s new uniform, calling Butler with an enthusiastic invitation: “Let’s play Villa Park,” to which Butler humorously replies:
“As long as I’m left wing.”
The ad then cuts to a lively montage of local figures and sports personalities, including coach Unai Emery, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez, Gabby Agbonlahor, and John McGinn, all eager to sport the new kit. The background soundtrack of Black Sabbath’s classic hit “Paranoid” adds a fitting touch.
Osbourne and Butler make further appearances in the ad. Butler is seen getting psyched up to classical music, while Osbourne frantically searches for his Adidas Predator boots, shouting at Sharon, “Have you seen my Preds?” In a humorous twist, an announcer calls out, “No. 11, the Prince of Darkness,” prompting Osbourne to proudly claim:
“I’m the biggest frontman to ever come out of Birmingham.”
As the ad wraps up, both Osbourne and Butler are shown leading a spirited “Up the Villa” cheer alongside a montage of enthusiastic supporters.
Black Sabbath Reunion Rumors
Amidst the excitement of the ad, speculation about a possible Black Sabbath reunion has resurfaced. Despite the band’s official retirement in 2017, Osbourne recently expressed regret over not performing final shows with original drummer Bill Ward, who missed the reunion tour due to a contractual dispute.
Geezer Butler hinted at renewed discussions about a potential final show. He mentioned to SiriusXM host Eddie Trunk:
“There’s interest on my part, but you’d have to speak to Bill about it. Everybody wants to do it, but I don’t know if he is capable of pulling it off.”
Butler also revealed that there have been talks about finishing the band’s journey back in Birmingham, stating, “Ozzy was hoping to finish it all off next year back at Aston Villa.” However, he acknowledged uncertainty about other members’ involvement, adding:
“I would love to play a reunion show, even if it was just for a short set.”
Since their retirement, Osbourne and Tony Iommi reunited briefly at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, but a full Black Sabbath reunion has yet to materialize.
