Billy Gibbons, the legendary frontman and guitarist of ZZ Top, is set to launch a North American tour in 2026 with his BFG Band, an all-star lineup of veteran musicians. The 27-date tour will visit venues across the U.S. and Canada, including a two-night stand at the City Winery in New York City.
The trek kicks off in Napa, California, on January 20 and continues through February 28, stopping in several major cities such as Denver, Atlanta, Santa Barbara, and Columbus. One of the most notable stops will be at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa—a historic site where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper played their final show more than 65 years ago.
The BFG Band: Blues Roots and Musical Chemistry
Joining Gibbons on this tour are Chris “Whipper” Layton, the former drummer for Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Mike “The Drifter” Flanigin on Hammond organ, bass, and backing vocals. Both bring decades of blues and rock experience, creating a dynamic trio rooted in Texas blues traditions.
“I’m joined with Whipper and The Drifter, in our collective Texas collective blues tradition,” Gibbons said in a statement. “There’s a bond that speaks volumes about our sonic skew. One might hear a surf tune or some other detour of loudness as what we do is looser than our collective background might suggest. We predict good times as we always say, ‘Ya’ can’t lose with the blues.’”

A Look Ahead to New Music
Alongside the tour, Gibbons confirmed that he’s working on his third solo album for Concord Records, following Perfectamundo (2015), The Big Bad Blues (2018), and Hardware (2021). He revealed that a new single titled “Brown Paper Bag” will be released ahead of the 2026 tour.
This year, Gibbons already contributed a new track, “Livin’ It Up Down in Texas,” to the soundtrack of the Paramount+ series Landman. Fans can expect his trademark mix of blues-driven guitar work and soulful vocals to continue shaping his solo sound.
