A Return After Two Decades

Former Eagles cofounder Bernie Leadon has released a new video for his first music in more than 20 years.

Last month, Leadon unveiled “Too Many Memories,” his first release since 2004. The video shows the singer, songwriter, and guitarist performing in front of vintage photos from the 1970s, offering a visual look back at his life.

“I dug out a bunch of old photos of my life and career for this video, which was actually a lot of fun to go through,” Leadon said in a press release. “I’m sure everyone has their own batch of photos they feel strongly connected to. And a song or two to go with them.”

He continued, “Looking back at photos, and different moments throughout our lives, so many memories, stories and feelings come back to us, sometimes connected to a song or a similar experience. It’s not that we literally have ‘Too Many’ memories, it’s that some of them may not be resolved, that we’ve left something undone or unsaid. The song’s conclusion is that we really should leave most of the troubling things behind, let them dissolve like the mist rising off a meadow in the early morning or dwindling light of evening.”

Career After the Eagles

Before forming the Eagles, Leadon played with Dillard & Clark and the Flying Burrito Brothers. In 1971, he cofounded the Eagles alongside Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Randy Meisner.

Leadon left the band in 1975 to pursue other projects, releasing solo albums including Mirror in 2004. Much of his later career was spent as a session musician, contributing guitar, banjo, and mandolin to recordings by artists such as Emmylou Harris, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, and Stephen Stills.

In 1998, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Eagles. Years later, in 2013, he rejoined the group for their two-year History of the Eagles Tour.

Honoring a Bandmate

Leadon also appeared at the 2016 Grammy Awards to honor the late Glenn Frey, performing “Take It Easy” with Jackson Browne and surviving Eagles members Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit.

Fans can now watch the “Too Many Memories” video below, where Leadon’s reflections and images bring together decades of music and personal history.
