Axl Rose Storms Offstage After Kicking Over Drum Kit and Throwing Microphone

Since Guns N’ Roses reunited in 2016, frontman Axl Rose seemed transformed from the unpredictable firebrand of his youth into a more composed and punctual performer. Gone were the days of riots in St. Louis and Montreal. However, recent footage from their Because What You Want & What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things tour suggests the old, volatile Axl has made a comeback. During a show at Estadio Huracán in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a fan-shot video captured Rose angrily kicking new drummer Isaac Carpenter’s bass drum during the opening number, “Welcome to the Jungle.” Later, he threw his microphone toward the drum kit before briefly storming offstage. Upon returning, he told the crowd, “So, I’ll just try and wing this.”
Isaac Carpenter: Filling Big Shoes
Carpenter, who replaced the late drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, is no stranger to Guns N’ Roses’ circle. He previously played with Duff McKagan’s Loaded, and McKagan has praised his style. “They’re both amazing drummers,” McKagan said of the band’s original drummers, Steven Adler and Matt Sorum. “And Isaac somehow blends both of those two guys and adds his own thing. So he adds a new sort of excitement to the songs. The groove and swing of the songs right now with Isaac is super impressive and super fun.”
Axl Rose in New Territory
Meanwhile, Axl’s influence extends beyond music. Last month, Sumerian Comics announced Axl Rose: Appetite for Destruction, a graphic novel featuring Rose as a half-human, half-robot whose quest could determine humanity’s fate. Guns N’ Roses continue their tour tonight (October 21) at Arena Opus in Florianópolis, Brazil, with additional dates scheduled ahead.
