Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose posted a heartfelt message on social media following Black Sabbath’s final concert, held over the weekend at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. The event, titled Back to the Beginning, marked the last-ever performance for both Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne.
Alongside other iconic bands like Metallica, Slayer, Alice In Chains, and Tool, Guns N’ Roses were invited to perform during the historic show. Guns N’ Roses took the stage later in the evening, delivering a six-song set mainly featuring Black Sabbath covers. They began with “It’s Alright,” a piano-led track Rose used to perform in the ’90s as an intro to “November Rain.” The set also included “Never Say Die,” “Junior’s Eyes,” and “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,” before closing with their own classics “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City” [via Setlist.fm]. Metallica followed Guns N’ Roses on stage afterward.
A First Meeting with Ozzy Osbourne
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rose expressed his amazement at the event and revealed he had never met Ozzy Osbourne or Black Sabbath before this night.
“Wow! What an event! Extremely overwhelming! Really great crowd! Was very emotional for everyone! MET OZZY! Crazy we’d never met before! He was really great! Was great to meet Sabbath!” Rose wrote.
He also reflected on witnessing Osbourne’s struggles during the show, commending his resilience.
“Was hard as I imagine for anyone to watch his struggles while at the same time everyone was rooting for him and massively respecting the challenges he took head on and he did it! Was great to meet Ozzy’s family and see friends and peeps in all the bands and the business. A huge thank you again to Ozzy, Sharon, Black Sabbath and all the fans for having us!”
Mutual Respect Between Rock Legends
Ozzy Osbourne also commented on meeting Axl Rose, describing him as a “legend” and an “utter gentleman,” reflecting the mutual respect between the two iconic figures in rock music.
