Returning to the Studio
Producer Andrew Watt has confirmed he is back in the studio with the Rolling Stones, working on new music. His comments follow talk that the band might be using leftover material from their Grammy-winning 2023 album Hackney Diamonds.
Watt, who produced Hackney Diamonds, has kept busy with projects for Pearl Jam, Lady Gaga, and the Elton John–Brandi Carlile collaboration Who Believes In Angels?. Speaking to Rolling Stone, he shared only a small hint about the sessions: “I’ve said it before, but it’s like working for Batman. When the tongue [logo] is up in the air, you just go… I can say we did some recording together, but that’s all I can say.”

Hints from the Richards Family
Speculation grew after Marlon Richards, son of guitarist Keith Richards, revealed the band had plenty of material left from their last album. In a Record Collector interview, he said, “They have enough left over from the last one. [It] gave them a Grammy so now they’re all hyped up on that: ‘Oh, yeah – we can do another one like that! We’ve got more like that if you want…’. I think they’re doing the follow-up.”
Marlon added that the group was “nearly done” with new recordings, fueling excitement that a follow-up could arrive sooner than fans expected.
Paul McCartney’s Role on Hackney Diamonds
Watt has often spoken about how special it was to produce Hackney Diamonds, especially with Paul McCartney joining the sessions. The former Beatle played bass on the track “Bite My Head Off.”
Reflecting on that moment, Watt told Mojo, “He got to just be the bass player in the band, and he fucking loved it. As I was walking Paul out of the studio, he said, ‘I just fucking played bass in The Rolling Stones, and I’m a fucking Beatle!’”
A Quiet but Busy Producer
While Watt keeps the details of the new recordings private, his track record suggests another major release could be in the works. With the Rolling Stones energized by their recent Grammy win and Watt describing the process as working “for Batman,” fans have reason to expect something exciting from these new sessions.
