Formed in Los Angeles in 1987 by lead singer Perry Farrell and bassist Eric Avery, alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction rose to prominence with hits like “Jane Says” and “Been Caught Stealing.” Alongside drummer Stephen Perkins and guitarist Dave Navarro, the group earned five Grammy nominations during their career. Fans were thrilled in May 2024 when the classic lineup reunited onstage for the first time in 14 years, sparking hopes for new music and a successful reunion tour.

However, that optimism was short-lived. In September 2024, during a concert in Boston, tensions erupted onstage when Farrell and Navarro clashed during a performance of “Ocean Size,” leading to Farrell physically confronting Navarro. The incident abruptly ended the band’s tour and sent shockwaves through the fanbase.

Following the altercation, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins issued a joint statement announcing the tour’s cancellation. They attributed the breakup to Farrell’s “ongoing behavioral issues” and struggles with mental health.

Perry Farrell Ventures into Techno Collaboration

Since the band’s split, Perry Farrell has mostly stayed out of the public eye—until recently. On October 10, British techno DJ Carl Cox released “Joya,” a collaborative single featuring Farrell. Cox described the track as a vibrant, joyful dancefloor anthem, praising Farrell’s energy and spirit.

Farrell expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “It means the world to me that we’re making people so happy with our music… Joyaaaaaah!” This release marks Farrell’s first new music since the turbulent end of Jane’s Addiction’s reunion.

Future of Jane’s Addiction Remains Uncertain

When asked in May 2025 whether Jane’s Addiction would ever regroup, Navarro was unequivocal, stating there was “no chance” the band would perform together again. Meanwhile, Farrell’s former bandmates have signaled through social media that Avery, Navarro, and Perkins have returned to the studio without him.

The tension escalated further in July 2025 when the trio filed a $10 million assault and battery lawsuit against Farrell. Farrell responded two months later, vehemently denying all allegations outlined in the lawsuit.

As the saga continues, the future of Jane’s Addiction hangs in the balance, with fans left wondering if the legendary group will ever reconcile and make music together again.
