Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton recently addressed the band’s future following their decision to end touring, and he’s clear about what lies ahead—or rather, what doesn’t. In a candid interview with Charlie Kendall’s Metalshop, Hamilton discussed the band’s plans and his own aspirations, emphasizing that Aerosmith’s touring days are officially over.
Hamilton clarified that the end of their touring was not due to any mishap or injury on Steven Tyler’s part. “It wasn’t a case of him blowing his throat out by doing something wrong. He has been healing well and working his ass off to get ready to go back out on the road, but it just wasn’t possible,” Hamilton explained. He confirmed that the future will not involve hiring a replacement for Tyler or creating a virtual version of Aerosmith. He added:
“We don’t know what the future holds, but it won’t include touring.”
Looking forward, Hamilton expressed optimism about the individual futures of each band member. “I believe each of us has music in our future, and it will manifest itself in ways that we haven’t planned yet,” he said. Personally, Hamilton is excited about his new projects. He revealed:
“I’ve been playing in a band with some good friends. We have a bunch of really good songs and we hope to be putting them out soon and hopefully doing some gigs. Right now, the amenity that I most want is more music and more time with family.”

Reflecting on Aerosmith’s legacy, Hamilton shared that the band has grown closer over the years. “I think emotionally the band has become closer than ever in the last few years. Maybe we could feel it deep inside that the conclusion was approaching,” he said. Despite the end of their touring, he remains hopeful about the future. Hamilton remarked:
“The future is still out there and I imagine we’ll figure out a way to be part of it.”
When asked about the possibility of creating a virtual Aerosmith or finding a new lead singer, Hamilton was firm. “I’m drawing a blank on that one,” he said regarding the virtual band idea. On the subject of replacing Tyler, he stated:
“There’s been no talk at all about going on the road with another singer. I can’t imagine it.”
