Some sweet- sweet emotion for Aerosmith

Written by Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler, and bassist, Tom Hamilton, “Sweet Emotion” began a string of pop hits and large-scale mainstream success for the band that would continue for the remainder of the 1970s”. In 1975, Columbia Records released the album Toys in the Attic, with Sweet Emotion released as a single a month later.

I love watching live performances of Aerosmith. They are just SO good live. The charisma between Tyler and Perry is brotherly. To think they’ve been doing this for over 40 years is incredibly impressive, and I hope they continue to play ’till the wheels fall off.

Fun facts!

  • The song peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the band’s breakthrough single and their first Top 40 hit.
  • Steven Tyler wrote this about how frustrated he was with the band. They were doing a lot of drugs at the time and tensions often ran high, especially between Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry. The song is also a statement about doing your own thing without letting others bring you down.
  • Tyler wrote the lyrics (Joe Perry was known as “Mr. Sweet Emotion“), and they put the song together in a jam session.
  • The song was so successful that the band decided to ride the heels of success and re-release their first single, “Dream On“, which had originally charted at number 59 in 1973.

One of my all-time favorite bands, Aerosmith!

+Sweet Emotion lyrics below+

Sweet emotion

Talk about things and nobody cares
Wearing other things that nobody wears
You’re callin’ my name, but I gotta make it clear
I can’t say, baby, where I’ll be in a year.

Some sweat hog mama with a face like a gent
Said my get up and go musta got up & went.
Well, I got good news: she’s a real good liar
‘Cause a backstage boogie set your pants on fire.

Sweet emotion

I pulled into town in a police car
Your daddy said I took it just a little too far.
You’re tellin’ other things, but your girlfriend lied
You can’t catch me ’cause the rabbit done died.
Yes it did.

Standin’ in front just shakin’ your ass.
I take you backstage you can drink from my glass.
I talk about something you can sure understand
‘Cause a month on the road and I’ll be eatin’ from your hand.
