Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has been forced to cancel an upcoming performance after suffering a minor fall in his recording studio. The 74-year-old rocker was briefly hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement shared on his official social media accounts.
“Dear Rock Soldiers,” the post begins, “Ace had a minor fall in his studio, resulting in a trip to the hospital. He is fine, but—against his wishes—his doctor has advised against travel for the time being.”
As a result, Frehley will no longer perform at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, California, scheduled for Friday, September 26. He encouraged fans to still attend the event and support fellow rock acts Quiet Riot and Vixen.
Frehley also shared that he remains focused on completing his upcoming album, Origins Vol. 4, the latest in his ongoing series of cover albums paying tribute to his musical influences.
Origins Vol. 3 Still Missing in Action
Interestingly, Origins Vol. 4 has now been confirmed as Frehley’s next project—although Origins Vol. 3 has yet to receive an official release date. The series began with 2016’s Origins Vol. 1 and continued with Vol. 2 in 2020.
Back in February, Frehley discussed the project during an appearance on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM. He revealed that Origins Vol. 3 is being recorded with producer and engineer Alex Salzman, who also worked on the previous two albums in the series.
“We’ve got a formula that works,” Frehley said. “I was listening to the records last night on YouTube. I’ve got Bose speakers in my office, and honestly, the old albums sound just as good as 10,000 Volts,” he added, referring to his most recent studio release. “So I’m sticking with that approach.”
He also mentioned the possibility of reuniting with Steve Brown (Trixter), who contributed to 10,000 Volts, for future studio work, praising Brown’s talents as a guitarist, songwriter, and engineer.
Tour to Resume in October
While the California appearance has been canceled, Frehley’s next live show is still on track. He’s scheduled to perform at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri, on October 11. More tour dates are expected as he continues promoting new material and wrapping up work on the Origins series.
