Pop star and actor Nick Jonas is gearing up to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in the upcoming biopic Shout It Out Loud. Best known as part of the Jonas Brothers with siblings Kevin and Joe, Nick is no stranger to performing, both on stage and on screen. Along with his music career, Jonas has also flexed his acting chops in Broadway productions like The Last Five Years, plus films like the Jumanji reboot series and the MMA drama Kingdom.
Telling the KISS Story
According to Deadline, the film will be directed by McG, whose past credits include Charlie’s Angels (2000) and Terminator Salvation (2009). Shout It Out Loud will explore KISS’ journey to fame during the mid-1970s, capturing the wild early days of the band’s rise. Filming is set to begin either late this year or in early 2026.
Jonas won’t just be acting—he’ll be doing his own singing in the movie too. The article adds that he “will need time to train to replicate the jet-engine vocals of Stanley,” a nod to the powerful voice that made Stanley a rock icon. Meanwhile, McG is reportedly close to casting someone to play Gene Simmons, Stanley’s legendary bandmate and KISS co-founder.
KISS on Screen: Then and Now
This isn’t the first time KISS has been portrayed in a film. The band famously starred in the 1978 cult flick KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, a movie that didn’t exactly earn critical love but lives on in fan history. They were also central to 1999’s Detroit Rock City, which followed four teens scheming their way into a KISS concert.
And let’s not forget their cameo appearances—Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons showed up in full KISS gear for the 2016 comedy Why Him?, starring James Franco and Bryan Cranston.
Now, with Nick Jonas stepping into Stanley’s iconic Starchild persona, fans are eager to see if he can bring the legendary frontman’s energy to the big screen.
