Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Cheap Trick, Pat Benatar, and a host of other major artists are contributing stage-played and hand-signed instruments to Julien’s Auctions’ “Played, Worn & Torn” charity event. The auction features over 800 items, including memorabilia from Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe) and Adam Clayton (U2), as well as rare pieces from music icons such as Keith Richards, the Beatles, Elvis Presley, John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, and Ace Frehley, whose stage-played “Shooter” Les Paul is among the highlights.

Gibson Gives Brings One-of-a-Kind Instruments

Gibson Gives is contributing 15 signed, stage-used guitars from acts including Lzzy Hale, Rise Against, Maná, the All-American Rejects, and Imagine Dragons. Of particular interest to Metallica fans is CEO#4, a one-of-a-kind Gibson SG custom-built by CEO Cesar Gueikian. Hammett played the guitar during Metallica’s performance of Black Sabbath’s “Hole in the Sky” at this summer’s Back to the Beginning festival, paying tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and the band.

Gueikian described the guitar as “a unique maple-top SG that combines elements of the SG, Super 400, Supreme, and Les Paul Custom, finished in a Ghost Burst—a name coined by my friend Adam Jones of Tool.” Hammett signed the guitar after the show, and it remains untouched, strings included, alongside Gueikian’s backstage pass from the event.

Auction Details and Charitable Beneficiaries

The auction runs through November 20th on Julien’s Auctions’ website. Proceeds from Gibson’s portion will benefit Gibson Gives, which supports musicians worldwide through music education and wellness programs. Additional beneficiaries include MusiCares, All Within My Hands, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Teen Cancer America.

Collectors and fans alike can browse the full range of instruments and memorabilia, with items ranging from historic stage-used guitars to personal artifacts from some of rock’s most legendary performers.
