Alright, I want you to imagine Lindsey Buckingham sharing the stage with Stevie Nicks as they’re about to play Landslide. Could you possibly imagine Lindsey Buckingham playing that iconic opening progression with a Mickey Mouse guitar? Me neither, but apparently that’s where it all originated. Back when Lindsey Buckingham was a child, he had a Mickey Mouse guitar and would play along with his brother Jeff. He would develop such an aptitude for this that he would surpass his brother and become the guitarist of the family. Now in regards to my Landslide analogy, no he didn’t actually play Landslide with a Mickey Mouse guitar, but to think that the start of his legendary career started from a Mickey Mouse guitar is just astounding!

Before becoming a guitarist, Lindsey Buckingham and his brothers Greg and Jeff were all competitive swimmers. As it turns out, the three Buckingham brothers were actually quite good at swimming. However, as you could probably guess, Lindsey would eventually become more interested in music and devote his full attention to that. His two brothers would stick with it though. Just imagine what today’s would be like if Lindsey Buckingham had chosen swimming over music. Just think about it. There probably wouldn’t even be a Fleetwood Mac! that’s a scary notion to wrap your head around. The song Holiday Road which is featured on the soundtrack for the movie was indeed written, recorded, and performed by the aforementioned Lindsey Buckingham. Now, you’re probably not surprised that Lindsey Buckingham is capable of writing such great music, but still, it’s quite surprising that he actually did the music for Vacation. This one took me a second to process. Yes, I know he’s Lindsey gosh darn Buckingham and he’s awesome, but how in the world is ANYONE able to get a gig in Fleetwood Mac without even auditioning, even Lindsey Buckingham!?! Apparently, the story is that Mick Fleetwood heard about just some of Lindsey Buckingham and just randomly decide to recruit him and Stevie Nicks to join Fleetwood Mac. Again, I know it’s Lindsey Buckingham, but don’t you think Mick Fleetwood would want some form of validation before he just decides to have him join his band? Nevertheless, it was a risk that paid off all too well. All members of Fleetwood Mac are not only legends together as a band, but also individually.
