Ian Anderson Delivers In Updated Take On ‘Ring Out Solstice Bells’

Classic rock fans have had Jethro Tull’s festive “Ring Out Solstice Bells” on their Christmas playlists for years, but today we were gifted in the form of something completely new and different, courtesy of Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson.

Released as part of his upcoming classical project, Jethro Tull: The String Quartets, the brand new “Ring Out These Bells” is a takeoff of the 1976 “Ring Out, Solstice Bells” featured on Jethro Tull’s Songs from the Wood, complete with a brand new arrangement by John O’Hara and a brand new title to go along with it that also sees Anderson employing the talents of the Carducci String Quartet, giving “Ring Out These Bells” a stronger holiday flavor.

“This new string quartet version captures the spirit of the original recording but with a really authentic Christmas classical interpretation with the flute – and a bit of the vocal sections of the familiar version,” revealed Ian Anderson to Ultimate Classic Rock.

“I can just feel the mistletoe quivering in anticipation of a quick kiss and no tell.”

With only a week to go until Christmas, rock and roll fans are sure to fall in love with this new take on their favorite Jethro Tull Christmas classic, just as we did. An amalgam of delicate sounds highlighted by Anderson’s world class flute playing and soft vocal passages imploring you to “Ring out these bells/Ring out these Solstice bells,” “Ring Out These Bells” is a Yuletide tune for the ages and we can’t wait for you to hear it!
