Some bands require silence backstage before a big show, others retreat to their respective corners for a final guitar tuning, vocal warm up, or nervous drumming on a practice pad before that final “5 minutes!” call comes from their tour manager. Never ones to play by the book, Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd like to do things a little differently before they head out onto the stage and into the spotlight for the night – and it’s a ritual that while setting them apart from other bands, unites them in a way that’s so incredibly important to both their past and their present:
They pray together.
Just before the night began at the Manchester Apollo, Lynyrd Skynyrd gathered around backstage for a moment of silence where they thanked God; for their success, for each other, for healthy families waiting for them back home and for another chance to do what they love while remembering the ones gone in the physical sense but there in spirit.
Lucky for us, Lynyrd Skynyrd shared this phenomenal photo of their intimate pre-show prayer ritual on Instagram, and if you weren’t already a super fan, you are now!
“Pre-show prayer! Getting ready to rock a sold out show at the historic Apollo in Manchester.”

They’ve always been a band fiercely devoted to their faith, and to see their faith in action before they run off to live their dream for another night just further drives home the fact that Lynyrd Skynyrd is, as always, the real deal and truly the last of a dying breed in a world seemingly gone mad.
