Annie Lennox Just Doesn’t Get Any Better!

On the night of February 9, 1964 the landscape of music was forever changed when The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. 50 years later on February 9, 2014, stars came out in droves for The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles. Among the celebrities performing heartfelt tributes to The Beatles that night were The Eurythmics – who reunited after nearly 10 years for the most breathtaking rendition of ‘Fool On The Hill’.

Written by Paul McCartney in 1967 for The Magical Mystery Tour, ‘Fool On The Hill’ is about a man who is considered a fool by others, but whose foolish demeanor is actually an indication of wisdom.

Annie’s voice is one of the most powerful in music, and if there was anyone who was able to do justice to such an iconic song for this momentous occasion, it was definitely her! The duo stayed true to the original while still gently incorporating their own unique flavor and Annie’s flair for the dramatic, and the result was absolutely stunning.

Thank you to The Beatles for over 50 years of music that made us laugh, made us cry, and made us think about what’s really important – love!

+ Fool On The Hill lyrics +

Day after day, alone on the hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he’s just a fool
And he never gives an answer

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around

Well on the way, head in a cloud
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around

And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around

He never listens to them
He knows that they’re the fools
They don’t like him

The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around
