Paul McCartney writes the most covered pop song of all time

With over 3,000 versions recorded according to The Guinness Book Of World Records– “Yesterday” remains one of the greatest pop songs of all time.

“At any given time, some version of “Yesterday” is probably being broadcast somewhere on the radio or television.”

Paul McCartney wrote this song and was the only Beatle to play on it. It was the first time a Beatle recorded without the others, and marked a shift to more independent accomplishments among the group.

John Lennon when asked about the charming song:

“Well, we all know about Yesterday. I have had so much accolade for ‘Yesterday‘. That’s Paul’s song and Paul’s baby. Well done. Beautiful – and I never wished I would have written it.”

Did you know the title before McCartney penned the lyrics was “Scrambled Eggs“!?

While out touring in Paris, the Beatle speculated he had heard the tune elsewhere, and was afraid he might be stealing it. He went on to play for a copious amount of people in the industry. He got the go ahead- and “Yesterday” was born.

+Yesterday Lyrics below+

Yesterday all my trouble seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday
Suddenly I’m not half the man I used to be
There’s a shadow hanging over me
Oh yesterday game suddenly
Why she had to go I don’t know
She wouldn’t say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe in yesterday
