Ya Know I’m Here To Stay!

“Stranglehold” was written and recorded by Ted Nugent and is included in his self-titled album which was released on November 1975 in the US and March 1976 in the UK. The vocals were done by American musician Derek St. Holmes. Though Nugent admitted to having Rob Grange as a co-writer,the latter didn’t receive any share.

“Stranglehold” would set the stage for Nugent’s career, a guitar-driven track over eight minutes long – its famous guitar solo having been recorded in a single take.

  • Ranked at number 31 in Guitar World’s “Greatest Guitar Solo of All Time.”
  • Featured in the TV shows Friday Night Lights, House M.D., and Supernatural

Nugent resented the attention Holmes received on stage and eventually sang all the hits himself. His explanation: “There’s only one alpha wolf, and that’s me.”

Truly a timeless track!
