I’ve heard many versions of “Lean On Me” but this one is probably one of the most emotional renditions. Steven Tyler may not seem like the perfect match to this Bill Withers classic but man, he nails it spot on! His distinctive vocals give more edge and intensity to the song and I like how he really puts his heart into it. This timeless track meant so much to the original artist and Steven definitely did justice to it!
Bill Withers to Songfacts: “In the course of doing the music, that phrase crossed my mind, so then you go back and say, ‘OK, I like the way that phrase, Lean On Me, sounds with this song.’ So you go back and say, ‘How do I arrive at this as a conclusion to a statement? What would I say that would cause me to say Lean On Me?’ At that point, it’s between you and your actual feelings, you and your morals and what you’re really like. You probably do more thinking about it after it’s done.”
From downbeat to reggae version, we’ve probably heard it all but not everyone can pull it off like Steven Tyler. What’s more amazing is this guy can take any classic, give it his own flavor and easily make it into one unforgettable track. Wow, just wow!
