At the turn of the century, Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd added yet another career milestone to their already impressive résumé with the 2000 release of Christmas Time Again, the band’s first Christmas album. An 11 track romp through the Christmas classics of old as seen through the eyes of Southern rock’s finest, Christmas Time Again also boasted a bluesy title track, “Christmas Time Again,” that found frontman Johnny Van Zant and Honkette Dale Krantz-Rossington trading verses for a final product that beautifully highlights the magic of Christmas time.
Fun Fact: Christmas Time Again also features the talents of special guests Charlie Daniels Band and 38 Special.
We’ve always known that Dale is a vocal powerhouse, a tremendous force to be reckoned with, but there’s something about hearing her share a lead role with Johnny Van Zant, especially on a blues soaked track like this, that immediately draws you in and refuses to let you go. Equal parts honey smoothness and smoky blues, Dale complements her bandmate’s voice beautifully and brings a special kind of magic to this Southern rock Christmas classic.
With only 10 days to go until Santa arrives, we’ve heard every Christmas song ever written – but hands down, “Christmas Time Again” remains far and away our favorite yet and we’re positive that it’ll be yours too. Enjoy!
