Santana and Steve Winwood – “Why Can’t We Live Together” Live | Society Of Rock Videos

Two Legends, One Stage

“Why Can’t We Live Together” was written and originally recorded by Timmy Thomas. It was released in 1972 under Glades/TK Records. It was a major hit both in the United States and United Kingdom.

The song is notable for its sparse, stripped-down production, which featured only a Hammond organ, percussion from an early rhythm machine and Thomas’s passionate, soulful vocal.

  • Topped the R&B chart
  • Peaked at number 3 in the Billboard Pop Singles
  • Sold over two million copies
  • Reached number 12 in the UK charts

This particular cover version was a collaboration between Carlos Santana and Steve Winwood. Steve was included in the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and he ranked number 33. Aside from that, he has also bagged two Grammy awards. He’s not only a talented singer but is a well-known multi-instrumentalist. He can play the mandolin, bass guitar, violin and drums to name a few.

There’s nothing more unforgettable than having two excellent musicians in one stage performing one classic track. Simply stunning!
