Shredding The Blues Out Of “Stormy Monday”

If there’s anything better than a Carlos Santana performance, it’s sharing the stage with another legendary guitarist — Buddy Guy. This famed blues musician is not just any other guitarist — he has influenced numerous other icons such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. He has also collaborated with Muddy Waters and Junior Wells.

  • Ranked number 30 in the Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”
  • Won six Grammy Awards
  • Awarded with the National Medal of Arts
  • Recipient of Billboard magazine’s The Century Award
  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
  • Guitar Center’s Hollywood Rockwalk Inductee
  • Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum Inductee

In this particular video, their chemistry is remarkable. It’s brilliant in every way — how they seem to communicate with each other through music. It’s such a delight seeing them together in one electric performance!

There’s a seamless understanding between those two guitar masters and that sort of natural flow of ideas in performance is rare because it can quickly become unruly– see David Sanborn with Clapton in Little Wing — but Carlos and Buddy have an unspoken understanding in a shared syntax and grammar from their fingertips.

I’ll probably watch this over and over again!
