When I think of Janis Joplin, I only think of one word: EXPLOSIVE. She’s electric the moment she hits the stage and always manages to make her live performances unforgettable. She’s not just a blues rock singer, she also transcends boundaries and can even go from psychedelic soul to jazz blues. It’s like, no matter what she’s singing, she can put so much life and soul into it. She was fearless and throughout her entire career, she has shattered every stereotype there was on female music artists.
Music historian Tom Moon wrote that Joplin had “a devastatingly original voice”. Music columnist Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote that Joplin as an artist was “overpowering and deeply vulnerable”. Author Megan Terry claimed that Joplin was the female version of Elvis Presley in her ability to captivate an audience.
In this cover, Toree McGee has powerful vocals just like Janis. She sings with passion which is basically characteristic of all of Janis’ songs. The way Janis does it, she always pours her heart out with every lyrics which is why she has numerous timeless classics.
Janis will always be a blues rock icon!
