Lines On My Face, While I Laugh Lest I Cry…

Peter Frampton is more or less one of the greatest musicians in the last 40+ years, gifting us with record breaking classics like ‘Baby I Love Your Way’ and ‘Show Me The Way’. In 1973, Peter Frampton released his second solo effort after the award winning Frampton, this time entitled Frampton’s Camel. One of the singles that stood out to quite literally everyone was ‘Lines On My Face’, a tale of heartbreak and realizing that only time wiill help ease the pain of the loss.

While Peter’s album Frampton’s Camel didn’t do well commercially coming in at #110 on the Billboard Top 200, ‘Lines On My Face’ was one of the stand out tracks that saved the album.

While other Frampton songs just sound so much better live, ‘Lines On My Face’ is one that’s best heard on the album! There are so many little nuances that are missed with this ballad in the live renditions that you pick up on right away when you listen to the studio version. In that regard, I think Peter Frampton definitely knows what he’s doing!

+ Lines On My Face lyrics +

Lines on my head from that one thing she said
She spoke of strangers that don’t sleep two a bed
Kept on trying, buying time, not waiting on fate
I somehow got the feeling that I opened my eyes too late
I saw where you came from
Called out your name
But there’s no answer
We lived on your doorstep
I made you my wife but I don’t need that

Lines on my face, while I laugh lest I cry
Speed city dirt and gritty waving me goodbye
So many people, my family of friends
Trying so hard to make me smile until this heartache mends

I saw where you came from
called out your name
but there’s no answer
We lived on your doorstep
I made you my wife but I don’t need that
Ice in her eyes, frozen tears would never be a surprise
You can’t erase a dream you can only wake me up
My mind is turning slower, never to accept defeat
It don’t matter where I live I still got a house to heat

I saw where you came from
called out your name
but there’s no answer
We lived on your doorstep
I made you my wife but I don’t need that
