Eddie Vedder Doesn’t Get Much More Rockstar Than This

What’s more rock and roll than paying tribute to one of the most influential bands of the 20th century with their biggest song, in the middle of a rainstorm? If you’re Pearl Jam, nothing. It seems like the stars were perfectly aligned when last night, Pearl Jam took the stage in Brazil’s Porto Alegre and, in the middle of a massive rainstorm, launched into a cover of Pink Floyd’s 1979 classic ‘Comfortably Numb’. Now, it’s been covered by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder before – but only during performances with former Pink Floyd bass player Roger Waters on his The Wall Live Tour, and only as a guest vocalist.

Until last night, that is; for the very first time in Pearl Jam history, thousands of rainsoaked concert goers had the immense pleasure and privilege of saying that they were there to see Pearl Jam perform ‘Comfortably Numb’ live, a song known for its complexities and for the massive creative genius that went into writing and recording it.

Fun Fact: Pearl Jam’s Got The Roger Waters Seal Of Approval!

“Eddie was absolutely amazing, so that was like a dream come true to have him come and sing ‘Comfortably,’ that was magical,” says Waters of his 2012 duet with Vedder.

Check out this amazing fan shot video of one of Pearl Jam’s biggest moments – and one of the best tributes to Pink Floyd we’ve ever seen!

+ Comfortably Numb lyrics +

Hello? Hello? Hello?

Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on now
I hear you’re feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I’ll need some information first.
Just the basic facts.
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re saying.
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I’ve got that feeling once again
I can’t explain you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

O.K.
Just a little pinprick.
There’ll be no more, ah!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working, good.
That’ll keep you going through the show
Come on it’s time to go.

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
