Metallica are arguably the most well-known metal band of all time. Even if you aren’t a fan of metal, everybody has a soft spot and respect for Metallica. They’re great at what they do, they’re consistent and all-around good guys. Not only that, they have the most iconic band logos in all of sports.
In an appearance with Jimmy Kimmel, the band finally revealed the secrets and origins behind the iconic logo and font. Jimmy asked if they had it designed by anybody significant. Believe it or not, the story is pretty standard. James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich explained that James designed the logo himself, and the only significance it holds is that it looks cool. They aren’t wrong, because the logo does totally fit the band’s style. Also, the instant you see that font, you know it’s Metallica. So far, it’s appeared on everyone of their albums, and in the band’s 30+ year history, it’s stayed the same and is left unchanged.
