Jimmy Page Schools 2 Other Rockstar Guitarists On How To Play “Kashmir”

‘Kashmir’ will always be one of the most remarkable songs by Led Zeppelin. And in this video, Jimmy Page sits down with Jack White and Edge to explain how he came up with the legendary riff. When he was asked about its origins, Page was more than happy to ‘explain’. He grabs his Danelectro 59DC Double Cutaway Standard guitar and starts playing the six-string. It’s an interesting insight into the mind of a Guitar God and how he was able to create a mesmerizing riff.

In another interview, Page also said:

“Those songs – In My Time of Dying, Kashmir – are supposed to be: That’s it. Nothing follows that. You need time to catch your breath after.”

One fun fact, though, neither Page nor Robert Plant (who wrote the lyrics) have ever visited Kashmir. Plant shared:

“Because of the time signature, the whole deal of the song is… not grandiose, but powerful.”

I just envy this jam session. I can’t help but think how it feels like to be in a room with him as he tears through the hypnotic riff right in front of you. Good stuff!
