There’s Plenty of Reasons To Get Excited!

Although “All Along the Watchtower” was originally recorded by Bob Dylan, it was more strongly identified with the cover version of The Jimi Hendrix Experience for their album “Electric Ladyland.” It was released in only six months after Dylan’s. Jimi started to record this track along with his band on January 21 at the Olympic Studios in London.

  • Number 47 in the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list by the Rolling Stone Magazine
  • Peaked at number 5 in the UK Charts
  • Ranked number 5 in the “100 Greatest Guitar Solos” list by Guitar World

In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: “I liked Jimi Hendrix’s record of this and ever since he died I’ve been doing it that way… Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it’s a tribute to him in some kind of way.”

Jimi didn’t just cover the song. He gave new life to it and in a way, made it as his own. The original track was quite slow while Jimi made his a little heavier.

Hendrix: “All those people who don’t like Bob Dylan’s songs should read his lyrics. They are filled with the joys and sadness of life. I am as Dylan, none of us can sing normally. Sometimes, I play Dylan’s songs and they are so much like me that it seems to me that I wrote them.”

Carl Brown, who gives free guitar video lessons, covers this amazing Jimi Hendrix track. This guy knows his music and man, those guitar skills are mind-blowing!
