I’m still blown away by the power in singer Toree McGee as she belts out Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece Of My Heart’ as her guitarist Ben Cooper strums softly behind her. So many singers attempting to cover Janis go overboard trying to imitate her but with Toree, it’s the perfect amount of sweet and smoky that makes this acoustic performance work so well.

So Who Is Toree McGee?

Toree is what she calls, ‘a blend of Woodstock rock ‘n’ roll, and sparkly country’. Her family is full of performers – she grew up singing gospel with her grandfather, and her parents instilled a massive love for classic rock within her, too!

Honestly, I’m pretty hard to please and this is by far my favorite cover of ‘Piece Of My Heart’. This duo manages to perfectly mix the fire and grit of rock and roll with the honey smoothness of country music, and the result is absolutely amazing!
