I’ve always been fascinated by the story behind this classic Janis Joplin chart-topper. It’s one of her most memorable and enduring songs and has been covered time and time again. To say that the writing was sort of an accident probably sums it all up. But then again, aren’t we glad she had her impromptu jam?
“I’d like to do a song of great social and political import,” she says, a twinkle in her eye. “It goes like this.”
It was such a soulful rendition that definitely wowed the audience. Man, I wish I was there to witness it! But anyhow, in this video, Gabriel von Brixen does his own cover tune and it’s just exquisite. It’s wonderfully refreshing to hear a different take to this timeless track!
