We’re so used to Janis Joplin’s whiskey tinged voice belting out her plea for material things in ‘Mercedes Benz’ that it’s strange hearing it performed any other way. Folk singer Gabi Milino not only tackled this Joplin classic but put her own fun, quirky twist on it, taking it from a soulful bluesy ballad to an upbeat, jazzy tune highlighted by an upright acoustic bass. Who Is Gabi Milino And Why Can’t We Get Enough Of Her?

Gabi is a Brazilian folk singer-songwriter from Sao Paulo, and just released her first solo album in 2014. She’s known for her fun YouTube videos featuring her singing with her band and alone, and she has as much fun playing as we do watching her!

As far as creative license goes, I love what Gabi did with ‘Mercedes Benz’! It’s got a great feel to it that’s meant to make you smile, and despite the song being a little depressing as it’s about a woman begging God for things that she <emthinks will make her happy, Gabi manages to keep it lighthearted and fun – as if you’re talking with a friend about what you’d do with a million dollars.
