I don’t know how English rock bands managed to nail the southern rock sound so well, but I’m glad they did! England’s Foghat penned the iconic classic rock hit ‘Slow Ride’, and it’s become so embedded in pop culture that even if you never knew who wrote it, you’d still sing right along! With more than 5 versions of ‘Slow Ride’ on the market, this hard rock classic is definitely a staple that has a little something for everyone.
Fun Fact: The name Foghat comes from a fake word made up in a game of Scrabble.
‘Slow Ride’ appeared on their album Fool for the City (1975). It also appears on Foghat Live (1977), which was their best selling album at over two million copies.
Funny enough, despite being English, Foghat never had a charting song in their native UK! They toured pretty extensively throughout the US, where their fanbase is the largest by far.
The English are missing out! Foghat is an awesome band that combines elements of hard rock with a twinge of southern blues rock thrown in to make it interesting and give their music a little bit of attitude. ‘Slow Ride’ is definitely one of the better classic rock tunes out there, and it’s one of our favorites!
