Def Leppard – “Pour Some Sugar On Me”

Hot, Sticky, Sweet!

One of the best selling rock bands of the 80s, England’s Def Leppard hit atmospheric levels of fame with 1987’s ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’. The song, written by frontman Joe Elliott, epitomizes the phrase “sex sells” with its racy undertones and suggestive lyrics and contains influences from everyone from The Archies to Aerosmith and even Run DMC!

Needless to say, ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ is one that’s definitely stood the test of time and one that we’ll be rocking to for decades to come!

Def Leppard, with Mutt Lange producing, were one of the best-selling bands of the ’80s, succeeding with a formula of polished songs perfect for Pop radio but with enough rock swagger to keep guys interested – which is where lyrics about sex and drums and rock and roll come in.

What I love about Def Leppard and more specifically ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ is the fact that after drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in 1984, most bands would have thrown in the towel and sidelined any hopes of success. Despite being one arm short, Rick Allen pushed through, learned how to drum with only one arm, and helped create Hysteria, the album featuring ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’.

Who knows – without Rick Allen’s tenacity, we might not have had a song like this to rock to!

Hey, hey, hey

Love is like a bomb baby c’mon get it on
Livin’ like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin’ like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man? (Your man)

Razzle ‘n’ a dazzle ‘n’ a flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night
Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
Little miss ah innocent sugar me, yeah, yeah
So c’mon, take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up

Pour some sugar on me
Ooh in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C’mon fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
Ooh I can’t get enough
I’m hot, sticky sweet
From my head to my feet, yeah

Listen, red light, yellow light, green-a-light go
Crazy little woman in a one man show
Mirror queen, mannequin, rhythm of love
Sweet dream, saccharine, loosen up (loosen up) loosen up

You gotta squeeze a little, tease a little please a little more
Easy operator come a knockin’ on my door
Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
Little miss innocent sugar me, yeah, yeah
Give a little more, take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up

Pour some sugar on me
Ooh in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C’mon and fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
Oh, I can’t get enough
I’m hot, sticky sweet
From my head to my feet yeah

You got the peaches, I got the cream
Sweet to taste, saccharine
Cause I’m hot, (say what), sticky sweet
From my head, (my head) to my feet
Do you take sugar? One lump or two?

Take a bottle (take a bottle)
Shake it up (shake it up)
Break the bubble (break it up)
Break it up (break it up)
Pour some sugar on me
Ooh in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C’mon fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
Ooh I can’t get enough
Pour some sugar on me
Ooh in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
Get it, come get it
Pour your sugar on me, oh
Pour some sugar on me yeah, sugar me
