American Idol Champ Nails Eagles Classic

For as many years as the Eagles dazzled us with their impeccable four part harmony and stellar songwriting, it seems we’ve heard just as many covers – but trust us when we say that few covers got our attention quite like that of country star Scotty McCreery, who thrilled the crowd at Houston’s Arena Theater last year with his cover of “Take It Easy”.

The American Idol champ is no stranger to incorporating covers into his live performances but this particular occasion saw his rock and roll roots come out to play for one seriously unforgettable performance of the 1972 classic.

Fun Fact: Written in 1972 by Jackson Browne, “Take It Easy” was gifted to the Eagles after late singer Glenn Frey helped the stumped singer-songwriter finish the song.

Sporting an acoustic guitar and backed by a world class band, McCreery serves up a fun, faithful spin on a song we’ve been singing for nearly half a century and while breathing new life into it returns “Take It Easy” to the country-rock roots we’ve missed so much. H

is deep, resonant voice is a gorgeous match for this much loved Eagles tune, rising and falling in just the right places as his backing band executes those oh-so hard to replicate Eagles harmonies with surgical precision and incredible ease.

Check out Scotty’s cover of “Take It Easy” in the audio below – it’s one of our favorites, and one that we’re sure you’ll love just as much!
