No One Sings Like You Anymore…

In the year since Chris Cornell’s death at the age of 52, we’ve heard every incarnation of Soundgarden’s groundbreaking “Black Hole Sun”. From choirs, to fans, to friends and instrumental tributes, the covers of “Black Hole Sun” that flooded the airwaves are no doubt original and incredible in their own way, but they also drive home the incredibly painful truth:

No one sings like Chris Cornell anymore. Not now, not tomorrow, not next year, or ever again.

Further reminding us of what the music world has lost is Cornell’s “Black Hole Sun” vocal track, making rounds across the internet today after Consequence Of Sound posted a snippet of the 1994 Superunknown classic on their Facebook account. Thankfully, there isn’t much – if any – bleed through from backing instruments, allowing us to fully appreciate the sheer power of Chris Cornell’s voice.

Rising and falling in all of the right places, standing firm under the weight of the deep set sadness that ultimately ate him alive Cornell’s vocal performance on “Black Hole Sun” is among one of the finest of his career, giving future rock singers an impossible benchmark to shoot for and those who walked the earth at the same time as he the pleasure of knowing that while no one sings like him anymore, we shared 52 years with the only person who could.

Check it out in the audio below and as always, enjoy!
