Love Was Out To Get Me!

“I’m A Believer” was composed by Neil Diamond but originally recorded by The Monkees. After its release, it immediately topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and dominated the chart for seven weeks. The band’s drummer, Micky Dolenz, was the lead vocalist for this track.

Neil Diamond had already recorded this song before it was covered by The Monkees, and it still sometimes appears in his live concerts. A revised recording by Neil Diamond, featuring additional lyrics, appears on the album September Morn, while his original recording appeared on the 1967 album Just for You.

It has been covered several times and was further popularized by Smash Mouth for the movie, “Shrek.” Neil Diamond eventually penned a song to be included in the band’s next album.

Neil Diamond had intended the song to be recorded by the Country artist Eddy Arnold, and was surprised when record executive Don Kirshner passed it instead to The Monkees.

Carrie Hope Fletcher does a wonderful version of this track. It’s fun, funky and fresh. Her voice also sounds magical!
