Something Tells Us Glenn Would Approve

Just a few short weeks ago, the Eagles came out of retirement in a move that surprised fans around the world and announced that they were back and ready to rock a brand new set of festivals – Classic East and Classic West, held in New York and Los Angeles respectively. Fans were overjoyed, but a little perplexed and more than a little worried; with a hole in the band caused by the sudden death of lead singer Glenn Frey on January 18th of last year, who could the surviving Eagles tap that could even come close to the musician Glenn was and even better – who would they get that Glenn would no doubt have chosen himself?

After weeks of secrecy and hints that they’d already chosen their man, the Eagles’ Don Henley confirmed the news we’ve all been waiting for: Eagles fans around the world, meet Deacon Frey – Glenn’s own son, and the talented young man filling in for him this summer.

Late last year, we reported that Don hinted that the Eagles could reunite – but only if 23-year-old Deacon agreed to it. After a bit of awkwardness that centered around having not actually spoken to Deacon or his mother, Cindy, about possibly recruiting him to join the Eagles in his father’s place, Henley walked the statement back. Now, Henley says in an interview with Dallas radio station KTCK, it’s the right time and no one’s more excited to hit the stage this summer than Deacon himself.

“There’s going to be an official announcement in a few days but let’s just do it here. Glenn’s son Deacon is a very talented young man, and he seems to be up for the task. He’s enthusiastic about it and he’s been working real hard on it, and he’s gonna do it with us. I think that’s appropriate.”

Exciting stuff! Deacon is the rightful heir to his dad’s legacy in the Eagles, and we can’t wait to cheer him on this summer as he makes his debut with the Eagles at Classic East and Classic West!
