Bob Seger Rocks Detroit With “Old Time Rock And Roll” Live! | Society Of Rock Videos

Give Us That Old Time Rock And Roll!

I think Bob Seger might have the most famous song from a movie scene – ever! ‘Old Time Rock And Roll’ isn’t just a Seger classic, it’s become a cultural staple; I mean, who doesn’t think of that scene in Risky Business where Tom Cruise slides into the hallway? That’s the mark of a song that’s stood the test of time – when listening to it draws to mind one particular memory for almost everyone!

Fun Fact: This is one of the few songs Seger recorded that he didn’t write.

It was written by the songwriters George Jackson and Thomas Jones. Although Seger worked on the lyrics, he didn’t take any songwriting credit – meaning that Seger doesn’t own the publishing rights to the song, nor does he control when it is used in movies and commercials.

Listening to Bob Seger perform this song is one thing, but actually seeing it is another thing entirely! He’s just so electric onstage, and because he’s having such a great time sharing his craft with you, it makes you want to join in on the fun!

Used in the 1983 movie Risky Business, this scene quickly entered the zeitgeist, leading to parodies, tributes, even Halloween costumes. Seger is OK with having his song closely associated with an underwear-clad Cruise – he says he gets a kick out of it.

+ Old Time Rock And Roll lyrics +

Just take those old records off the shelf
I’ll sit and listen to ’em by myself
Today’s music ain’t got the same soul
I like that old time rock and roll

Don’t try to take me to a disco
You’ll never even get me out on the floor
In ten minutes I’ll be late for the door
I like that old time rock and roll

Still like that old time rock and roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock and roll

Won’t go to hear them play a tango
I’d rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There’s only sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock and roll

Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say, I’m old-fashioned, say, I’m over the hill
Today’s music ain’t got the same soul
I like that old time rock and roll

Still like that old time rock and roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock and roll

Still like that old time rock and roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock and roll

Still like that old time rock and roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock and roll

Still like that old time rock and roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock and roll

Still like that old time rock and roll
