Led Zeppelin’s the name on the tips of everyone’s tongues this week as a brand new batch of reunion rumors are swirling, thanks to a few “anonymous, well-placed sources” and a strange little message occupying the homepage of frontman Robert Plant’s official website. The message reads, “Any time now…” and set against a black background, there’s no way to navigate to any other place on Plant’s website, which means one of two things; either his website is under construction as he finishes up work on his next album with the Sensational Space Shifters, or he’s gearing up to announce Led Zeppelin’s reunion.
Naturally, we’re inclined to take this with a grain of salt and keep moving because after all, there’s been no official confirmation from anyone and Robert is notorious for shutting down even the best of offers when approached about a reunion with bandmates Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, but in a year that’s seen Guns N’ Roses do the impossible we’d be foolish to not be even just the slightest bit hopeful that this might, in fact, be the break we’ve been waiting for.
According to Raul Rossell II at Feel Numb, he’s got it on good authority from “well placed sources in the industry” that Plant has agreed to reunite Led Zeppelin for Desert Trip 2017 and that with Led Zeppelin’s 50th anniversary approaching next year he was eager to take Goldenvoice – promoter of both Desert Trip and Coachella – up on an incredibly sweet deal to mark the occasion.
Has he? Hasn’t he? No one will know until someone from the band either confirms or denies the rumor, but be sure to stay tuned to Society of Rock for more updates as they become available – this is one we’ll be keeping an eye on!
