“The Other Side” was written by Steven Tyler and Jim Vallance. It was released on June 6, 1990 as the fourth single of their tenth studio album “Pump.” The songwriting and production team Holland–Dozier–Holland pointed out similarities between this song and their track “Standing in the Shadows of Love” and when they threatened to sue Aerosmith, they were given credit.

A music video was produced to promote the single. The video was directed by Marty Callner, and featured John Kalodner. The video includes the intro piece “Dulcimer Stomp”.
Being one of their biggest hits, this became the fourth track in the same album to make it to the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100! Man, that was an incredible feat for the band.
The live footage was filmed during part of the bands swing through the south. Clips from their shows in Tallahassee, Jackson, New Orleans, and Shreveport were used in the video.
