Aerosmith performs song that saved their career!

Did you know Aerosmith was almost dropped from their record label until the executives heard this song? It’s absolutely bonkers to think of a world without out Aerosmith, right?

Tyler began writing “Dream On” when he was just 17! He explains he had no idea it would ever become a real song, and knew nothing about songwriting- in the beginning it was just a little sonnet he played on his piano.

Dream On” debuted on their self-titled album in 1973, was released as a single, and became their first major hit.

Tyler says “this was the only song on the first album where I used my “real” voice.” He was insecure about how his voice sounded on tape, so for the other songs, he tried to sing a bit lower at an attempt to sound more like artists like James Brown.

In his book, Tyler writes, “That’s where I got that ‘Dream On’ chordage.” Tyler explained: “It’s about the hunger to be somebody: Dream until your dreams come true.” He added, “This song sums up the s–t you put up with when you’re in a new band.”

This is one of my favorite Aerosmith songs. There is no one that hits those note the way Tyler does in the bridge. See what I’m talking about, below!

+Dream On lyrics below+

Every time when I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn’t that the way
Everybody’s got the dues in life to pay
I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it’s everybody’s sin
You got to lose to know how to win

Half my life
Is books, written pages
Live and learn from fools and
From sages
You know it’s true, oh
All the things come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Dream on
Dream on
Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
Dream on
Dream on
Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
Dream on
Dream on
Dream on

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away.
